Castle And Cake

Sunday started out as a mess, but ended up wonderfully.  We met Allie (another girl from our group) at the train station.  Even though we were early, the train times had changed last minute, and we would have to wait 30 minutes to catch the next one.  We grabbed a quick lunch and went to get on our next train.  After five minutes of sitting on the train, and reading the ?? that said where the train was actually headed, we realized that the train we were on was not the one the boards had told us, so we quickly got off.  We finally reached the station where we were supposed to switch trains, and got on the connecting train.  Luckily, everyone from London was having problems with transportation as well, so we all arrived late, but at the same time.

We headed to Windsor Castle.  It is gorgeous, and the largest inhabited castle in the world.  The first room we saw held the queen’s dollhouse.  This was never built for playing with, and was the most intricate thing I have ever seen.  It was filled with pieces from artists all over the country, and had working electricity and plumbing! It was definitely every little girl’s dream, but with how many millions of pounds it cost, I don’t think I would let anyone play with it either.

From there we saw some art from the royal collection and had an audio tour of many rooms in the castle.  Everything was gorgeous and ornate, although, I don’t know if I would want massive portraits staring at me in every room of my home…maybe that’s why they put all the paintings in rooms that are usually used for show and not actual living.

After the castle we headed out to explore Windsor a bit, but it was rainy and cold, so we soon headed back.  Since it’s our last Sunday here, we stopped in town for a traditional Sunday roast with Tom and Lynlee.  We were literally the only people in the restaurant…which was weird, but also nice since we were served quickly, and it was delicious.  We all wanted dessert, so we went to another pub and got a yummy chocolate fudge cake with ice cream and hot chocolate (:  It was a delicious way to end our day.

Now all we’ve been doing is working on our papers, which isn’t as fun.  But Wednesday is our farewell dinner so we’ll get a nice break from writing!
