Start of Term

So I know there hasn't been an update in a while (sorry to the moms), but classes started this week, so there hasn't been a lot going on. Both my lectures have been quite boring. One of my lecture profs told us that they're essentially pointless because we'll learn everything in our seminars. However, Lynlee is in one of my lectures, so that's good. The seminars consist of about 8 students sitting in chairs crowded into the prof's office, which is quite strange to me. But those are more interesting.

One of my profs is, let's just say, a little obsessed with that fact that I'm an American. I said maybe 2 words and she asked where I was from. When she found out, she proceeded to ask me all sorts of questions, like have I ever been to "Middle America," (yes), "Tell us about it," (I don't know, I was there for a few hours on my cruise and didn't venture off into the "wild." Then, since a few of the books we're reading deal with colonization, she looked at me and said, "Well you should know all about that, shouldn't you?" Then when I just sort of laughed and said "of course," she proceeded to go on about how Americans are good sports about "that whole deal" than the Australians were. Non of this, by the way, had really anything to do with our readings. When we started talking about the divide with the Church of England and the Roman Catholic church and the Protestants, she randomly asked "You wouldn't happen to be a Lutheran, would you dear?" Actually, I am, which made her tell me how smart I am. And when she asked a few questions and I was the only one who would speak up she proceeded to tell the class "Listen to the foreigner everyone, she knows things. It's probably because over in those American schools they believe in something called 'knowing things,' something that would be good for us all to follow." Needless to say, I felt quite awkward, but I guess it means she must like me.

Despite my lack of actual class time, though, I do have to read two books a week (one for each module). So Justin and I ventured to the library yesterday, and let me just say that it is quite huge. To begin with, there are about 4 or 5 floors. Then, when you are in the aisles, the lights are all motion sensor, aka it's quite dim, and sometimes it takes a minute for the lights to creepily flicker on. All in all, it's pretty fabulous, and I wish the library at Adrian was that great.

Justin finally has a class, and he's waiting on a response for the second one, so hopefully the right people will do their job so he can go to class! (:

Also, pictures relating to the last post are now on my facebook, here.
